Meet the Owner | Marissa Hann

When I was in high school sewing was my favourite class. When I was done school, I continued making my Halloween costumes and altering clothes for myself, but I left that behind as I got busier in life.

My parents, Shelly and Brent Evans, bought Kwala-T Cleaners in 2011. I started working for them in 2012. I mostly looked after customers but would help the seamstresses occasionally with simple tasks like removing zippers.

In 2013 my parents hired Jay. He was a tailor in India and owned his own shop until he moved to Canada. He did really amazing work. He always wanted to teach me how to do everything. I was always afraid to do new things but he was always there to show me how to fix my mistakes. He was a great teacher. Jay ended up moving to Ontario.

I had my son in 2015 and when I came back to work I went back to just occasionally helping with patches or hems when the seamstress needed help. In 2020 I had my daughter. When I finished maternity leave in 2021 our seamstress was really hoping to retire but we had been trying for years to hire someone and had no luck. I became the only option but with my limited skills, we had to turn away a lot of work. Eventually, I had a few very trusting customers who wanted me to just try my best. With the powers of YouTube, I realized that I could learn how to do pretty much anything. So that is what I did, just watched a lot of YouTube, until I got good enough to know how to do something just by looking at it.

At the end of 2023, my parents decided they were ready to sell Kwala-T Cleaners so I figured I would start my own tailor shop. My parents had reached out to Busy Bee Cleaners to see if they wanted to open a second location in Moose Jaw, which they didn’t, but they would be interested in doing a depot with us. This is where the idea for Revive Garment Care got started. With Kwala-T Cleaners closing there would be nowhere in Moose Jaw to take dry cleaning which would have been a big loss for the city and surrounding area. We are very happy that we have been able to partner with Busy Bee as they are amazing at what they do.

I am so thankful to my parents for giving me all these amazing opportunities. I wouldn’t have been able to start this business without their generosity and support. I am so happy to continue working with my mom every day and thankful for all the work she does. I would be lost running this business without her.
